One month before (D-30 to D-14)

2 to 1 weeks before (D-14 to D-7)

The day before (D-1)

Moving day (D-Day)

After the move (D+1 to D+14)

This checklist is a reference covering a typical Korean moving process. Procedures can differ by contract type and region; for administrative steps such as resident registration and the confirmed date, check the guidance at Government24 and your local community service center.

How to use

  1. Review tasks by stage — look through tasks organized by stage, from 30 days before through moving day and after.
  2. Check off completed tasks — tick the checkbox for finished tasks and the progress (%) updates automatically.
  3. Track your progress — watch the overall progress and remaining task count so nothing is missed.

Key preparation by moving stage

Moving is not only about carrying belongings — it involves administrative steps and many address changes, so handling them by stage on schedule reduces omissions. The table below summarizes the key tasks for each stage.

Key preparation by moving stage
StageKey tasks
D-30 to D-14Confirm date, get/book mover quotes, decide move type, plan decluttering
D-14 to D-7Internet/mail transfer, subscription address changes, waste & technician bookings
D-1Store valuables, empty fridge, drain washer, prepare payment
Moving daySettle fees/utilities, gas move-out/move-in, handover & damage check, payment
D+1 to D+14Resident registration & confirmed date, vehicle/license/bank/card address changes

In particular, resident registration is required within 14 days of moving, and for jeonse/monthly rentals it is best to get a confirmed date at the same time to protect your deposit. Estimating moving cost and volume in advance with the Moving Cost Calculator and Moving Volume Calculator makes preparation much easier.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

When should I start preparing for a move?

Usually start about one month before (D-30). Compare and book a mover earlier in peak season, and start transferring internet/subscriptions and clearing unused items 2–3 weeks ahead for a comfortable timeline.

When and how do I file a resident registration (jeonipsingo)?

In Korea, you must file a resident move-in report within 14 days of moving. Visit the local community service center (jumin center) or apply online at Government24 (gov.kr); getting a confirmed date (hwakjeong-ilja) at the same time helps protect your deposit.

What must I take care of on moving day?

Keep valuables, cash and contracts with you, settle maintenance fees and utilities, handle gas disconnection (move-out) and connection (move-in), and check the handover of belongings. Finish the payment method and damage check the same day.
